Avalanche Offensive

Avalanche Offensive splash

14 August 2014 – 18 August 2014

Operation

On Thursday (14 August), the event began with the release of Update 14.2 and was set to run for the weekend. Upon logging in, the Tenno received an inbox message from Cantis.

Inbox message:
Avalanche Offensive

Tenno,

You’ve helped the Red Veil in the past; now we want to return the favour. Our spies have discovered that a large batch of Corpus Arctic Eximus are massing for training around the polar region of Mars. With so many Arctic Eximus gathered in one place, you have the perfect opportunity to strike a crippling blow against the Corpus field command.

Go to Mars and take out as many of the Arctic Eximus as possible. We will offer you what we can from the spoils.

—Cantis of the Red Veil Resistance

A new mission node called “Avalanche Offensive” was available on Mars.

Mechanics and Missions

Tenno had to run the event node on Mars – an Exterminate mission against Corpus enemies on the Corpus Outpost tileset (as was characteristic for Mars at the time). The enemies featured a hidden damage multiplier, making them surprisingly dangerous. In addition, the cryogenic leakage environmental hazard was frequently applied to the mission, creating freezing patches of ice and halving shields. Arctic Eximus units were very commonly encountered in the mission.

The event tracked the number of Arctic Eximus units killed during the mission. Once the Tenno had killed 100 Arctic Eximus (generally requiring the mission to be run several times), the event was complete.

Rewards

Upon killing 100 Arctic Eximus units, the Tenno received an inbox message from Cantis containing a 3-day Affinity booster.

Inbox message:
Mission Accomplished

Tenno,

You sent the Corpus a message today! They’ll be watching their backs from now on. Let them get nervous, let them know they can’t hide; we’re watching, and we have the Tenno by our side.

We found these among their supply crates. The Corpus were using them to speed up their troop training. I figure you might have a use for it.

—Cantis of the Red Veil Resistance

The Affinity booster was activated immediately upon opening the message.

Aftermath

In the wake of Spectres of the Rail, it is possible (though not confirmed) that this event was retconned to take place on Phobos instead of Mars. Cantis, previously seen in Operation: Spectres of Liberty, would not appear or be mentioned again.
