Shifting Sands

10 October 2014 – 14 October 2014

The second Tactical Alert appeared in Update 14.10.2 as Shifting Sands. This was a new mission node on Phobos (presumably retconned to Mars as of Spectres of the Rail) that appeared on Friday (10 October 2014) and lasted until that Tuesday.

On Friday (10 October 2014), the alert became available and was present for the weekend. The Tenno received an inbox message from the Lotus.

Tactical Alert: Shifting Sands

Tenno,

Our operatives have detected an unusually rich Cryotic deposit in a remote region of the Phobos desert. Curiously, intelligence reveals that the Grineer base at this location is patrolled entirely by airborne Hellion troops rather than standard ground infantry. The Cryotic may have had unforeseen consequences on local wildlife. Proceed with caution.

Note that this will not be a standard excavation mission. As we encountered before, this base is equipped with sensors capable of detecting large signatures of Void energy generated by more advanced warframes and weapons. With this radar in place, and the entire Grineer battalion capable of flight, their forces would overwhelm you in a matter of moments. Slip in under the radar, Tenno, and recover that Cryotic… at any cost.

The Shifting Sands Tactical Alert was a special Excavation mission on Phobos. As with the Hyena Facility alert before it, the Tenno was limited to a Conclave rating of 700 or less. The Tactical Alert was an Excavation mission on the Grineer Settlement tileset, with the enemies consisting only of Arid Hellions and Grineer Power Carriers. Whenever an excavator was deployed, a group of special Desert Skates, coloured red and with increased health and damage, spawned around the excavator, hostile to all factions. The Tenno would have to ensure the excavator was protected from both the Grineer and the Cryotic-infused fauna.

The points were determined by how much Cryotic was gathered in a single mission; unlike the previous Tactical Alert, the points were not cumulative across all repeats of the mission. Each excavator completed awarded 200 Cryotic, and 200 Cryotic would give 200 points for the mission. Once the Tenno collected 500 points in a single mission, they would receive an inbox message from the Lotus with a Forma blueprint.

A Good Start

Well done, Tenno. You have kept this vital resource out of the hands of the enemy. With most of our resources funnelled into Project Archwing, I cannot offer you much for your service. Hopefully this will help in some way.

Once the Tenno collected 1000 points in a single mission, they would receive another inbox message, but with a 3-day affinity booster.

Once the Tenno collected 2000 points in a single mission, they would receive a third inbox message with a Stratos Emblem.

Inbox message:
Mission Accomplished

You went above the call of duty today, Tenno. The skill you displayed will inspire your fellow warriors. Wear this, so that they will know what has been achieved here today.

—The Lotus

All three rewards could be earned in a single mission by excavating 2000 Cryotic.
